Arsenal kick off their European campaign with a trip to Austria to take on Rapid Vienna

Rapid Vienna vs Arsenal Live

This is The Gunners 4th straight season in Europe. Last season, they were knocked out in the round of 32 by Olympiacos as such, Mikel Arteta has hinted that he would take this Season’s European football seriously. These 2 sides do not have any footballing history as this is the first time they are coming up against each other.

The Austrian outfit will be much relaxed coming into this game as they are the clear underdogs in this contest, expect them to present a very strong Line up for this clash. Rapid Vienna have a number of injured players, meaning the side will have to do without Tamas Szanto, Philipp Schobesberger, Christopher Dibon, and Dalibor Velimirovic. However, they have been in excellent form in the Austrian Bundesliga and are one of only three unbeaten teams in the country’s top flight.

Possible Line-up; Strebinger; Barac, Ritzmaier, Fountas, Grahovac; Hofmann, Stojkovic, Kara, Ullmann, Arase; Ljubicic

The Gunners will be boosted by the return of Shkodran Mustafi from injury, with the defender in line to make his first appearance for the season, but he might have to settle for a place on the bench. Rob Holding is out for at least 3 weeks after sustaining an injury in the warm-up to Man City’s game at the weekend. Dani Ceballos picked up a knock at the weekend so we expect him to sit out this one. New signing Thomas Partey looks set to make his first start for the Gunners in midfield. He is likely to be paired with Mohammed Elneny. Willian is out with a Calf strain. Upfront, Lacazette should get the nod in attack after being left on the bench against Man City.

Possible Line-up; Leno, Cedric, Luiz, Gabriel, Kolasinac, Elneny, Partey, Maitland-Niles, Nketiah, Lacazette, Nelson

on the importance of qualifying for the Europa League…

Yes, because we know that this club has to aim for every competition and we have to be involved in European competition, so let’s start tomorrow. It will be tough. You haven’t asked too many questions about the game and I am worried, because I have seen from Rapid, they look a strong and dangerous side, so we better be prepared tomorrow.

~ Mikel Arteta

Based on our current form, I tip the Gunners to get their European campaign off with a winning start.

Our Prediction: Rapid Vienna 1- 3 Arsenal
