Arsenal faces Manchester United in a thrilling encounter on Sunday. The Red Devils vs The Gunners

Arsenal are without a win in two EPL matches, losing to Manchester City and Leicester City in the process. Manchester United on the other hand had a draw against Chelsea and won Newcastle since losing heavily at home against Spurs.

Still battling with a wobbly start to the new season, the Red Devils will be looking forward to ending their home games woes as they face Arsenal at Old Trafford in the Super Sunday match.

New Man Utd signing Alex Telles remains sidelined due to coronavirus restrictions; Arsenal regulars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bernd Leno, Thomas Partey, and Alexandre Lacazette will return to action after having a good rest midweek against Dundalk.

Mikel Arteta is without a number of defenders with David Luiz (thigh), Rob Holding (hamstring), Pablo Mari (ankle), and Calum Chambers (knee) all missing through injury, although William Saliba is available to make his debut if called upon.

With pressure beginning to mount on Arteta, his style of play will have to improve if he is to get a good result at Old Trafford.

Both teams have it all to do and have everything to play for in this showdown. United have to regain their fans’ confidence at home after winning their last 10 away games in all competition but failing to win the last 5 at home.

Arsenal Battles Old Foe: Manchester United vs Arsenal Match Preview

Sunday’s encounter represents the 233rd competitive meeting between these two sides, with Manchester United bidding to record their 100th victory over Arsenal. Arsenal is not too far behind with 84 wins to their name, while only 49 draws have been played out between two of English football’s most decorated clubs.

Although Manchester United have not prevailed in any of the three most recent contests, they are unbeaten in their last half-a-dozen home encounters against the North Londoners.

Nevertheless, two-and-a-half years have passed since Manchester United got the better of Arsenal in a Premier League fixture.

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 13 home league games against Arsenal (W8 D5) since a 0-1 loss in September 2006.
  • Arsenal have won two of their last three Premier League games against Man Utd (D1), as many as they had in their previous 15 against them (W2 D5 L8). Indeed, Arsenal are unbeaten in their last four league games against Man Utd, last having a longer such run against them between 1989-1992 (5 games).
  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 29 home league games against Arsenal in games in which they’ve scored (W21 D8), last losing when scoring at home to the Gunners back in November 1977 (1-2).
  • Mikel Arteta is looking to become just the second manager in Arsenal’s history to win both of their first two games against Manchester United, after Herbert Chapman in 1925-26. The last Gunners manager to win their first away game against the Red Devils was Billy Wright in May 1963.

on whether Aubameyang could play centrally...

It’s one of the options that we have for sure in the team, to evolve it. The moment he doesn’t score in three or four games, people will say, ‘He needs to play more central’. It was great for him to play on the left because he wasn’t picked up by central defenders. There was more freedom for him to do that. [Criticism] is a part of this industry.
